ASUU and the new minimum wage

AFTER a long drawn battle with threats of fire and brimstones, Organised Labour suspended its proposed mass actions over their demand for a N30,000 minimum wage as President Muhammadu Buhari warmly received the report of the Tripartite Committee of the National Minimum Wage. Even if the Federal government accepted the offer as assumed, it has to follow due process, particularly legislative actions to become effective. Obviously, Nigerian workers deserve improved package far above the existing N18,000 benchmark. Whilst the heat was temporarily put under control, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU,  grounded academic activities by strike action. Linda Ikeji retracts her publication on "Instablog owner", blames " mistaken identity"

In the ‘exclusive’ story, LIB stated that John Abayomi, the alleged owner of Instablog9ja is also the online editor of Punch Newspaper. This generated a lot of reaction from social media users and celebrities including Davido, Yungsix, Special Spesh and Bovi who did not hide their disgust for Abayomi. In a recent development, however, LIB has apologised to the Punch editor for inconveniences caused and has also retracted the story saying the real owner is John Abayomi Aruleba. The blog has also apologised for the mix up saying it is as a result of the similarity in the names. This follows the inquisition by the management of Punch Newspapers, employer of the named Abayomi, who were going to sack him if indeed he was the owner of IB9J. Abayomi himself protested his innocence and has since written Linda Ikeji through his lawyer, Femi Falana. "No water to flush toilet at Lagos International Airport"- Actress Remmy Njoku

Nollywood actress Mary Remmy Njoku has taken to her Instagram page to call out the Lagos International Airport over an alleged negligence on the side of the airport. According to the actress, she made an attempt to use the toilet while at the airport, but surprisingly there was no water in the closets and the toilets were full. She wrote: Whenever I hear people talking crazy about Nigeria i dive in and defend my Fatherland. But these days, Naija Dey fall my hand! How can there be no water to flush the toilets in an International Airport? Haba! The toilets are full. Different layers of waste/tissue. No water! 6ix9ine arrested on Racketeering charges in New York

NBC is reporting that rapper 6ix9ine was denied bail Monday after a prosecutor said there was evidence that he directed or participated in multiple acts of violence as part of a deadly gang. Recall that the FEFE rapper and his team members were arrested in New York yesterday on federal charges. And now, details of the arrest have surfaced. According to NBC, U.S. Magistrate Judge Henry B. Pitman concluded an hourlong hearing by citing “troubling” corroborating evidence offered by a prosecutor to show that 6ix9ine directed or participated in multiple acts of violence over the last eight months. The rapper and his associates were reportedly part of the Nine Trey gang, who “wreaked havoc on New York City, engaging in brazen acts of violence,” federal prosecutors said. Former presidential spokesperson  Reno Omokri  has accused the Buhari Campaign Organisation of stealing its Next Level campaign concept from The Rex Institute. Omokri shared a photo of the campaigns, both of them spotting similar logos, but while the  President Muhammadu Buhari campaign logo is in green and red, the Rex Institute logo is in black and red. Allison Nelson , a Rivers State-born model, has emerged as the winner of the 2018 Mr Universe Nigeria pageant. The 26-year-old Arts and Design graduate from the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede in Owerri beat 28 other finalists at the pageant held at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos. Nelson will go on to represent Nigeria at the 2019 Mr. Universe contest in the Philippines and will also walk the runway at the 2019 Dallas Mens Fashion Week. He also took home one acre of land and a laptop.
